Another reminder

another dictionary poem:

re·mind·er

/rəˈmīndər/

noun

  1. a thing that causes someone to remember something.
  2. the writing on the wall of a downtown strip mall.
  3. a much-needed message in the midst of challenge.

Message on the wall of a downtown strip mall
right in front of my parking space

And, a blitz poem:

Here in Mind

You’re stronger than you know
You’re still here
Here to to tell your story
Here to play
Play the day away
Play with words
Words have power
Words build worlds
Worlds without
Worlds within
Within the realm of possiblity
Within your reach
Reach for the sky
Reach and you shall grasp
Grasp at straws
Grasp the truth
Truth slices deep
Truth can set you free
Free to believe
Free to be
Be fair
Be kind
Kind to all
Kind of a mess
Mess up
Mess becomes art
Art of living
Art of healing
Healing the hurt
Healing one another
Another day
Another time
Time to sleep
Time to rise
Rise and walk
Rise above
Above the clamor
Above the earth
Earth gives and reclaims
Earth keeps turning
Turning to mush
Turning the key
Key to the map
Key change
Change direction
Change your mind
Mind over matter
Mind your words
words
matter

Note: Here’s my dictionary poem from earlier in the challenge.
The blitz is meant to be quick bursts of thought. Here’s a link on how to create a blitz poem. The rules are a little complex, even for the title; but once you get going it almost writes itself.

I dedicate this blitz to my fellow Slicers.

  1. Fran, I love the blending of dictionary and Blitz poems, and I love the message on the wall. I wish there were more messages on more walls, come to think of it. I wonder how many times messages like that really reach inside people where they are and give them the oomph in moments that they never saw coming. Your blitz flows so naturally, and it just sparkles with encouragement. Thank you for starting Tuesday on a high note.

  3. Oh my gosh – I needed that today – yesterday I found out that my estranged father died at the age of 99. He had a good long life. I wish we could have mended our relationship but he didn’t or couldn’t. So now, I’m left with so many emotions – I know you underdstand. Somehow I think you knew that I needed your poem right now. Thank you, Fran.

    • Joanne – I remember you mentioning the estrangement from your father. I believe in reconciliation IF it is possible – sometimes it just isn’t. I do understand. The loss of the relationship is a death before death, but still, it is a parent..there are layers to work through. Whatever kept him from reconciling with you is gone now; he is free. Avoid taking up the mantle of guilt. It will not do you any good. You could only do your own part – you could not do his. I pray you acceptance and peace. It will come. Trust me ❤

  4. Extraordinary how you pack so much meaning and emotion into such a fast poem. Blitz is such an apt name… thanks for the dedication and I love the lines about rising up and above and reaching for truth and change. I also love the power in the dictionary poem.

  6. I’ve just read this post, and I hereby nominate you to find a poetry slam in your community and read this one. This is a poem that asks – BEGS – to be read and enjoyed aloud.

As for that photo, I am saving that for a difficult day. I need it from time to time!

  7. I had never heard of a blitz poem, but I am newly inspired. How fun to read! You said that it almost writes itself, but your incredible word play and twists make this poem feel incredibly well crafted. Such a delight to read! I also love your dictionary definition for “reminder”. Beautiful all around!
