Some time ago, I had my nails polished in a pale color delightfully named “Life’s a Cupcake.”
I’ve been hanging onto that, in case I ever decided to write something out of it.
—Why not today?
If Life’s a cupcake
then use real sugar.
If Life’s a cupcake
then add your own flavor.
If Life’s a cupcake
then try not to burn it.
If Life’s a cupcake
then savor the filling.
If Life’s a cupcake
then frost it thick with love.
If Life’s a cupcake
then offer it to others.
If Life’s a cupcake
then eat every crumb.

My sweet Scout, summer before last

If life’s a cupcake, then the pic of Scout is the frosting on top. Perfect topping!

I like this format. I think I may “borrow” it using another word instead of cupcake. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a fun poem, Fran!
Of course, I had to check out the nail polish link. It’s similar to the color I use, Prima Ballerina. “Life’s a Cupcake” is a much more fun name!

I love the pale blush polishes, Stacey. Your “Prima Ballerina” is SO pretty! I had fun with the poem, making the comparisons hold throughout.

What fun this! I really like the frame “If _____ a _______, then. I might actually explore a variation myself. The inspiration itself, a name of polish, makes me thnk about how sometimes marketing relies on strong imagery. I could see the pink.

The names of nail polishes are astoundingly creative – one of my other favorite names, not necessarily color, is I Have a Herring Problem (blue-gray). Do try the form! I’d love to see where it leads you!

That poem slowed so smoothly, it looks as if it wrote itself! So sweet (pun intended) and extra with your photo. I think I might search color names- paint, polish, crayon… for inspiration now.

Thank you, Fran, and I understood! Paint and nail polishes have such fun names these days. Something will certainly reach out and tickle your fancy (I am so sure that name is out there!).

What a lovely post! I see lots of thick-frosting love on that cupcake, and what a fun topic for a blog! The picture, though, that’s the best part. She is absolutely beautiful! And that cupcake is decorated so creatively, I would think of it as edible art.

Yummy! I hope so much the “If life’s a cupcake…” then be sure to do all these things with it. It is a lovely poem, and I’m glad you wrote it today. I especially like the last line “then eat every crumb.” Amen!

Somebody undoubtedly makes big bucks coming up with these creative names! Thank you for your words about the poem and the photo – my Scout is an absolute treasure. So precious. The granddaughters are the glitter-dust on top of the cupcake, for sure.
