Last Saturday morning my son texted:
Micah put her shoes and jacket on and now she’s standing here saying “I want to go to Franna’s house.”

My response?
“BRING HER!”
And so Micah and her big sister Scout came over for yet more adventures.
I feel a celebratory pantoum coming on…
At Franna’s house
We play all day
Singing a hundred songs
Wearing Franna’s jewelry
We play all day
We hide in our bedspread fort
Wearing Franna’s jewelry
While building our castles
We hide in our bedspread fort
We eat up all the ice cream
While building our castles
It’s always a magical time
We eat up all the ice cream
Singing a hundred songs
It’s always a magical time
At Franna’s house
— as magical for Franna as for her girls. ❤

How fabulous that you live near enough and have the kind of relationship that you can revel in these impromptu visits/playtimes!

Fran, this is just heartwarming to see these girls wanting to spend time with their Franna – – and look at Micah’s shoes! That girl is ready. I love that you ate up all the ice cream and played in a fort and built castles. These are the things dreams are made of. I often struggle with what form is the best for the poem I’m writing, and this is something I needed to see today – – a perfect fit the way the pantoum repeats and you circle back to the ice cream and tender moments. This is a great mentoring moment for me to see how you used the repeating lines of pantoum like the busy play of children, putting down one thing and moving along and then returning back to it as kids do. I love it, Fran!

Those shoes, on the wrong feet, a jacket, no pants…she got her own self dressed to go to Franna’s house! The picture is priceless to me, as is her asking to come. It fills me with absolute joy. The girls and I have wonderful fun together and we put away the ice cream, for sure. All kinds of goodies! The pantoum…I love the rhythms of this form. I have learned to write my last stanza first and work up from there. That last line is the key, as it’s also the first! Thank you for your sweet and meaningful words, Kim.

So adorable! I hope my grandson will someday ask to come to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. He doesn’t have enough words yet for that. Enjoy your day with these lovely girls.

And…for the record…I’m still thinking about your “Jewels” post. I haven’t responded yet, but so many thoughts swirl…

There’s always room for one more at Franna’s house, Lainie! Imagination is the order of the day and you have that par excellence! So interested in your swirling thoughts on the “Jewels” but it makes me happy to know it lingers. 🙂
